Description

The magnificent conclusion to one of the greatest science fiction sagas of our time

The time of reckoning has arrived. As a final genocidal Crusade threatens to enslave humanity forever, a new messiah has come of age. She is Aenea and she has undergone a strange apprenticeship to those known as the Others. Now her protector, Raul Endymion, one-time shepherd and convicted murderer, must help her deliver her startling message to her growing army of disciples.

But first they must embark on a final spectacular mission to discover the underlying meaning of the universe itself. They have been followed on their journey by the mysterious Shrike--monster, angel, killing machine--who is about to reveal the long-held secret of its origin and purpose. And on the planet of Hyperion, where the story first began, the final revelation will be delivered--an apocalyptic message that unlocks the secrets of existence and the fate of humankind in the galaxy.

Not the best book of the series but still great. Re-read it again after twenty years and loved it. One of the few books that made me sad when I finished it, for the journey with all the characters was over.

I’ve literally never written a review for anything. These books were so good I felt so compelled. What an epic four book journey. These have been some of my favorite Sci-Fi tales of all time. Covering all aspects of technology and life, I simply couldn’t stop reading. I highly recommended all of them.

The Rise of Endymion is one of the most beautiful love stories I have ever read. And the entire Hyperion Cantos is the best sci fi book out there! What a Wonderful read, amazing characters and a beautiful world he has crafted here. Dan Simmons has done it right.

From a beginning that teased of a cryptic demon-driven Canterbury Tales, to a star-crossed lovers space-time immemorial storyline, through an alien landscape with African Queen river-ventures, and crossing the finale with fatalistic quantum true love story... This is an amazing tribute to the true creative force that gives meaning to the genre of science fiction.

What a wonderful series of books. I am truly saddened that my time with them is over! The characters literally became a part of my days, and my dreams....a series that will stretch and transform one's understanding of what our future may someday be. An absolute must-read!
  • Worst of the four Hyperion Books

Honestly, this book shouldn't have existed. 100 pages should've been chopped out & attached to the previous book. I know Mr. Simmons writes books for money, but there's SO MUCH boring filler in this book. Diid we really need dozens of pages describing architecture and clouds and commuting ? I ha to force myself to finish it. It did have quite a satisfying ending

Probably the finest series I have read in years. The only problem is, it had to end. If you love a good story loaded with life changing vision that will challenge what you thought you knew about religion, philosophy, history and more importantly spirituality Start with Hyperion and finish here 4 books of the meaning of Love.

Have been reading books for more than half a century. This book and it's predecessor series combine the best of all I have ever enjoyed in my reading...science, sci fi,fantasy, history, poetry, romance...everything I've enjoyed and loved.
